Chapter 22: The Silent Birth of Hope

I started overthinking & was full of stress. I was praying to God that he should take my life, as I couldn't end this life myself. I was totally hurt. My family took a stand for me and spoke to the Middleman about my in-laws’ behavior.

Meanwhile, I took maternity leave from my job, and they accepted my sister as my replacement during the leave period.

It was August 15. I was feeling uneasy, as the due date had already passed three days earlier. My family decided to approach the best hospital in the city to consult a doctor. While we were rushing there, my father called Raman to accompany us. Initially, he denied, but afterward, he came to the hospital.

By that time, the conversations were done. The doctor demonstrated that the previous doctor had already given me certain medicines which made normal delivery difficult. Still, they said they would try inducing artificial pains.

I asked Raman to accompany me to the temple to pray, but he didn’t react out of anger. I came back and was admitted to the hospital. Here, the doctors were clever. They talked about artificial pains but instead gave me anesthesia and took me straight to the operation theatre.

Just after 20 minutes, the doctor came out with the Good News.

They handed the baby into Raman's arms and said, "It’s a baby boy." Everyone was happy and enjoying the moment… nobody seemed to bother about me. Only my mom kept peeking inside the OT, desperate to catch a glimpse of me.

I was unconscious and unaware of the cesarean that had happened.

The next morning, when I came to my senses, I saw my mother by my side. But I was looking around for Raman, unaware that I had given birth to a son.

Slowly, my mother whispered to me that I had a boy.

I was shocked and surprised because I had been unconscious throughout the whole operation.

Meanwhile, tensions between families were growing outside because of conversations with the Middleman.

I didn’t feel any happiness inside. I was cursing my fate — wondering why even at such a big moment in life, I could find no real joy.

When all this chaos was happening, the families were busy deciding my son’s name. Nobody agreed on the names me and Raman had planned earlier.

Finally, my son's name was finalized: Mukul.

Reflection:

"Sometimes life gifts us blessings wrapped in the thorns of pain. Mukul was not just a child; he was the silent promise of a new beginning, born amidst storms."
